Purpose: The purpose of the Mother Baby Wellness Coalition of Pima County is to create collaborative partnerships and improve the health and safety of mothers, babies and families through education.
We do this by: • Ensuring babies are born healthy and raised in a safe and nurturing environment.
• Educating and encouraging healthy choices.
• Serving as a strong voice for change.
• Promoting equal access to quality health care.
• Eliminating health disparities among residents of Pima County.
• Achieving cultural competence and respecting diversity.

Betsy S.: Heartsounds received 501C3 Carolyn M.: Heartsounds is applying for grant through Long Reallty Laura P.: TOPS 10th Anniversary event is tomorrow 9/24.
Nancy T.: Health Start Info available. Health Start is Pima County’s home visitation program that is available prenatal – age 2.
Kerrie G.: Healthy Families is currently writing policy for standard administration of the Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Screen.
Eileen R.: Attended the Childbirth Education Training in Chandler. Brought in baby swaddlers to share with the group. Made by Pea Wee Baby- swaddle buddy suit.
Teri B.: Still hiring for a childbirth Educator. Has offered a provision to Blanca B., but is still waiting for her to accept the position. Uzo N.: Mother’s Oasis is now offering a Rhythmic Movements dance class on Tuesdays at 6:00pm
Minutes of the August Meeting were approved. Motion made by Betsy, seconded by Laura.
Treasurer’s Report: As of September 23, there is $702.24 in our bank account. The new brochures have been paid for and are available to anyone who desires to share them in the community.
Old Business: Discussion was had that the updated resource list is still being worked on. Also the website is now on its own server and can be handed over to someone to manage.
New Business: Presentation given by Amanda from Tu Nidito.
Tu Nididto is a non-profit organization located on Roger and Mountain. They offer three prongs of services to children and families dealing with loss of a loved one or coping with a serious medical condition.
Services they provide:
1. Support groups for children grieving the death of a loved one. Care givers of these children also have a support group available to them.
2. Support Groups for children that have a parent with a serious medical condition. Support groups are also available for the ill parent and their spouse.
3. One-on-one services provided to families and children where the child is suffering from a serious medical condition. This includes home/hospital visits, volunteer support for the siblings and other family members, and courage beads.
Tu Nidito is run mostly by volunteers. Their next volunteer training is on October 15th and 22nd. Contact Tu Nidito to fill out an application.
Next Meeting: October 28, 2011, 8:30 – 10 a.m. The topic will be Autism and presented by Elaine Gallardo, LMSW, Easter Seals / Blake Foundation
